When I first started watching
07-Ghost, I had great expectations for it. This series has the potential to be good as it has many bishounen, interesting setting, and a not-too-bad plot.
07-Ghost had a pretty good start but sadly speaking, in the later half of the series, it started to dwindle. Given how the series ended (abrupt and lame), if this series is popular enough in Japan, there may be a sequel. I heard many comments that the manga is better so I may start reading it to make the judgment myself.
Plot: (7/10) – Fairly GoodThis is the story of Teito Klein, an orphaned slave who became the top military academy student. However, an unexpected turn of events left him pursued by the forces of the Barsburg Empire. Now an escaping convict, Teito is sheltered by the Church. There, he discovered many mysteries surrounding himself, the Church, and the Empire. In order to find out the Truth and to avenge his best friend, he decides to become a Bishop. It's a fairly interesting story about friendship and vengeance. It also has some comic relief moments, which help to make the series more light-hearted. However, I think the series focuses too much on Teito and his (very little) character development, and too little on the revenge plot. This makes the series a little boring.
Characters: (9/10) – GreatThe characters are the only thing I really like about
07-Ghost. Not only are most of the characters bishounen, their personalities are very likable too. The only complain I have is there's too much focus on Teito. I never really like Teito as he's always in his negative thinking mode.
If you follow my blog, I think you should know that my favorite character is Mikage. ♥ I like him since episode 1 and I'm glad I did. He's such a sweet, brave and caring character! It's just so sad that he had to die. Thank goodness he returned as a cute pet. I hope the stuffed toy version will be on sale soon.
♥♥♥
I also like the three Bishops. Though they have very different styles, they all look cool. Frau has the badass look, Castor has the intellectual look and Labrador is oh-so beautiful. The newest character, Hakuren looks really good too.Switching to the bad guys, I think that it's a pity that Ayanami is given so little screen time and character development. He's supposed to be the main villain, the most evil thing that ever existed in the series, but I cannot feel that at all. Art/Animation: (8/10) – GoodIn general, the art is pretty good. The characters are beautifully drawn and so is the background, in particular the Church. As for the animation, it's just average. The battle scenes are not impressive but not half-bad.
Sound/Music: (8/10) – GoodI personally like how they incorporate the ED ('Hitomi no Kotae' by Noria) into the series. It makes certain scenes extra touching (ie. Mikage's death scene).
Enjoyment: (8/10) – GoodFrankly speaking, initially, I'm only watching it for the bishounen. Overall, I think this series is very pleasing to the eyes.
Overall: (7/10) – Fairly Good07-Ghost has the potential for greatness but it turns out to be plain. I think this series can do better if it can focus more on other characters, in particular Ayanami and his gang.
