This is one of the pleasant surprises of Summer 2010. At first sight,
Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin dd not appeal much to me as the art looks boring. However, I'm glad I watched it anyway as
Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin turned out to be quite entertaining.
Plot: (8/10) – GoodThough I'm still a little disappointed with the last episode, overall I think the story is pretty well-written and there were some interesting twists to the plot too.
Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin is also surprisingly educational as it explained quite a bit about the different myths and occult in the world.
Characters: (8/10) – GoodSeikimatsu Occult Gakuin has quite an interesting cast of characters: a self-declared occult-hating girl, a wimp from the future, a visual kei fat guy who knows dousing and etc. There are no characters I particularly like a lot. However, I do think that the main female character is very cool.
Maya - She's the coolest character in this anime.
Fumiaki - He's a wimp most of the time but he redeemed himself in the last few episodes.
JK - He's the most outstanding character, for various reasons.
Art/Animation: (6/10) – FairI can't appreciate the art style and the character designs are very bland too. However, the animation quality is not too bad.
Music: (7/10) – Fairly GoodThe Opening Theme "Flying Humanoid" by Nakagawa Shouko is quite catchy and I think the Ending Theme "Kimi ga Iru Basho" by Takagaki Ayahi is nice. However, for some reasons, I think the 2 kids in the Ending Theme sequence look a little scary for some reason.
Enjoyment: (8/10) – GoodSometimes it's good to watch an anime without any expectation as you may just end up enjoying it more. I watched
Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin with very little expectation and I find it surprisingly funny and entertaining.
Overall: (8/10) – GoodIf you love occult and believe in things like Nostradamus, I think you will enjoy this anime. Even if you don't believe in occult, you may find it amusing and entertaining.
